About

Leslie Neale is an American-born award-winning documentary filmmaker,  actress and photographer based in Los Angeles, California.

Neale has documented a variety of projects in the state of California from the farming communities of Central Valley to the rarely seen California Department of Corrections prison system. Her interest in different cultures has brought her to new and unfamiliar territories—from areas as far as Cuba and Vietnam to her very own backyard of Venice Beach, California.

When asked why she was first drawn into photography, Neale stated it's the desire to connect with others different from herself that moves her to pick up a camera.

"Photography gives me a way of being in the world. To catch a story in a single frame is so very hard to do but when it happens there's nothing more exhilarating. It's that quest that keeps me going back again and again," says Neale.

Neale is foremost a Leica girl.  She primarily shoots with an M6 or M9 but has recently picked up a Sony A7 to adapt to changing times. She is currently working on a project soon to be published on the website.
